Navigation portal and mobile apps (NAVCEN) redesign

Chiron’s team worked with Tuva (Akima group child company) on the project implementation.
The project lasted a little over 6 months, and the focus was on the current website and mobile applications analysis, feedback gathering and redesign. The Navigation Center is the Coast Guard’s center of excellence for systems and policy related to electronic positioning, navigation, and timing. This includes radio navigation, electronic charting, and vessel identification and tracking.
Problem
US Coast Guard had outdated site and mobile applications for IOS and Android platforms. The site and apps were designed somewhere in earlier 2000th, thus having an outdated look and feel and features. Even though the UI/UX was an outdate website had a lot of integrations with 3rd party services and providers and quite a big database behind it. A separate administration portal was there as well to support site configuration and information.
Solution
As part of this engagement, Chiron’s team had multiple developers working close with NavCen IT department and analyzing website structure, database hierarchy and mobile applications architecture. Meanwhile UI/UX Designer helped to prepare new look and fill for the website and mobile application relying on user feedback and modern-day trends.
Technical Implementation
There was no technical implementation as part of this engagement, only analysis and proposed possible solutions. Thus wireframes were developed using Adobe Cloud Products. Code analysis was done with Visual Studio, Eclipse, and Xcode. The database was the on-premises SQL server which was analyzed too.
